Bullet chart

1. Overview

The non-modified linear expression of Bullet Graph enables us to express rich data information in a narrow space. It can be compared under the same category or horizontally.

For example, we can compare the "profit" and "sales revenue" in different years, or compare the "profit" and "sales revenue" each year, as shown in the figure below:

2. Operation steps

2.1 Data preparation

Sample data:

sales profit.xlsx

2.1.1 Mark the sales profit

Add a self-service dataset "sales revenue". Select the fields, as shown in the figure below:

2) Add the "money type" field, as shown in the following figure:

3) Save and update this self-service dataset.

2.1.2 Mark the sales profit

Add a new self-service dataset, mark the profit in the same way, as shown in the figure below:

2.1.3 Merge up and down

1) Merge up and down with the "sales revenue" dataset, as shown in the figure below:

2) Save and update the dataset.

2.2 Create the bullet chart

1) Select "Custom Chart" and drag the fields "Year" and "profit" into the analysis column.

2) Drag "money type" into the "color" and "size" tag, as shown in the following figure:

3) Set the color "opacity" to 60%, as shown in the following figure:

4) Do "Custom Sort" to the "money type" field in the "size" tag. The exchange sequence of "profit" and "sales revenue" is shown in the figure below:

By adjusting the sequence, you can change the width of "profit" and "sales revenue".

The created bullet chart is shown in the following figure:

2.3 Calculate the profit rate

1) Copy two "profit" fields.

Do "Pull down" → "Detail Filtering" to profit1, the filtering condition is "money type" in "sales revenue".

Do "Pull down" → "Detail Filtering" to profit2, the filtering condition is "money type" in "profit".

2) Create "profit rate" field, as shown in the following figure:

3) Drag the "profit rate" to the vertical axis, choose "Pull down" → "Set the value axis". Choose "right-value axis", and set the maximum axis scale as 1. As shown in the following figure:

4) Set the "Graphic Properties", display the "profit rate" by line chart, as shown in the following figure:

5) Drag the "profit rate" to the "tag" under "profit rate", set the numeric format as "percentage",as shown in the following figure:
