Data Connection to Google Sheets

  • Last update:May 16, 2024
  • Overview

Use the Google Sheets file as a report data source, which can be a template dataset or server dataset.

Currently, only the designer supports adding template datasets and server datasets. The decision-making platform does not support it.

For details about plugin installation, see Designer Plugin Management.

Besides, data collected through Google Forms and SurveyCake can be connected to Google Sheets with the settings of Google first for processing and analyzing. For details about the operation, see:

How to connect Google Forms to Google Sheets: https://blog.sheetgo.com/google-sheets-features/how-to-connect-google-forms-to-google-sheets/.

    Data Connection Adding

    Procedure

Choose Server > Define Data Connection > + > Google Drive.

    Google Drive Authorization

Click the  icon to go to the Google authorization page and select the to-be-authorized account.

    Select what FineReport can access.

Return to the designer and the Google account that logged in is authorized.

    Dataset Creation

    Procedure

You can create a template dataset or server dataset.

To create a template dataset, choose Template > Template Dataset > + > Google Sheets.

You can also click the + button in the bottom left corner of the current page and select Google Sheets.

To create a template dataset, choose Template > Template Dataset > + > Google Sheets.

    Google Sheets Data Table Selecting

Click the drop-down list of the data connection to view all the Google data connections in the current environment. Select the needed data connection.

All the data tables under the current Google data connection are displayed below. If there are too many data tables, you can enter the name of the data table through the search box to search and select the required data table after finding it.

    Data Table Attribute Setting

Select the data table to view Sheets Info, including ID, Owner, Last Modified on, and Last Modified by, so that you can verify the correctness of the table data.

You can set Value Range to the specific data, which cannot be empty. For example, enter Sheet1!A1:A2 to get the data from the cell A1 to A2 in Sheet1.

Besides, you can set parameters, such as ${para1}!${para2}:${para3}.

You can set Column Name to First Row as Column Name. You can also set Preset Column Name, indicating data of Value Range does not contain the name row.

    Data Table Preview

After selecting the data table, you can click the  button to preview the Google data table in the browser to verify the correctness.

After setting the attributes of the data table, you can click the  button to preview the specific data that will be used in the report.
