The Mesh Number of the Custom Model

  • Last update:  2023-03-30
  • Background

In the FVS plugin, both 3D City Component and Custom Model Component support uploading glb model files to add model objects.

However, after adding a model, there may be stuttering, crashes and so on. At this time, you can refer to this chapter to optimize the model.

    Mesh Number

Mesh number refers to the number of independent meshes in a glb model file. If there are too many meshes, the performance of this model maybe affected.

For 3D software used to create models, mesh number can be considered as object number. The more independent objects in the file, the more mesh number there are in the exported glb file.

However, in 3D software, mesh number can be reduced by merging objects to lower the impact of the model on the product performance.

The Impact of a Large Mesh Number

When creating a FVS large screen template, if the uploaded model has too many meshes, rendering lag will appear, which influences the performance of the model.

    Common cases are as follows:

    1. After uploading a model and adding it to the model editing interface, there is obvious lag.

    2. There is no obvious lag when you upload a model and use it, but it will appear when you use several copied models at the same time.

    3. Sometimes lags will more likely to appear when you use simple models rather than complex ones.

    4. When uploading a model, the following prompt window appears:

When encountering the above cases, it is recommended to simplify the mesh number exported in the glb file by merging objects in the 3D software, and then re-upload.

Note: For information on how to optimize the mush number of models, refer to Optimizing the Mesh Number of Models.
