A multi-dimensional scatter chart is a type of scatter chart. It is very cumbersome to draw simple scatter charts between multiple variables when you observe the correlation between them. In this case, you can draw the scatter charts between variables from multiple dimensions simultaneously, which can help you quickly discover the main correlations between multiple variables. To a certain extent, this approach can help you overcome the difficulty of displaying high-dimensional data on a plane.
For example, the relationship between Profit and Sales in various areas is shown in the following scatter chart.
The following table describes the basic requirements for multi-dimensional scatter charts.
Multi-dimensional Scatter Chart
> = 1
1. Advantage
Complex relationship revelation: Multi-dimensional scatter charts can reveal complex relationships and interactions between multiple variables.
Visual display: Through visual elements such as color, shape, and size, multi-dimensional scatter charts can intuitively display information of each variable.
2. Disadvantage
Data density: In high-dimensional data, some regions may be very sparse while others may be very dense, which can affect the interpretation of the charts.
Difficulty of explanation: As the number of dimensions increases, it becomes increasingly difficult to explain and understand multi-dimensional scatter charts.
1. Log in to FineBI, click My Analysis, select a folder, and click New Subject, as shown in the following figure.
2. Choose Local Excel > Upload Data, as shown in the following figure.
Sample data: Air Conditioning Sales Details.xlsx
3. Click OK after the data is uploaded, as shown in the following figure.
4. Click Save and Update to complete the data creation, as shown in the following figure.
1. Click Component in the lower left corner.
2. Select Scatter Chart in Chart Type.
3. Drag Area and Sales from the left to-be-analyzed area into the horizontal axis of the analysis area, and drag Tiered Market and Profit to the vertical axis, as shown in the following figure.
4. Click the drop-down button of Area on the horizontal axis, and select Filter. Add filtering conditions in the pop-up setting box, and filter out regions that do not belong to Total, as shown in the following figure.
5. Click the drop-down button of Tiered Market on the vertical axis, and select Filter. Add filtering conditions in the pop-up settings box, and filter out Tiered Market that does not belong to Total, as shown in the following figure.
6. Click the drop-down button of Tiered Market on the vertical axis again, select Customize Sort, and drag different tiered markets for sorting in the pop-up settings box, as shown in the following figure.
Setting the Color
Drag Sales Channels from the left to-be-analyzed area into the Color bar in the Graphic Property area. In this way, different sales channels will be displayed in different colors, as shown in the following figure.
Setting Horizontal and Vertical Axis Fields
1. Click the drop-down button of Sales on the horizontal axis, select Set Value Axis(Lower-value Axis) in the pop-up setting box, and select Custom in the Display Range area. Set Min Value to 0 and Max Value to 4000000, and click OK, as shown in the following figure.
2. Click the drop-down button of Profit on the vertical axis, select Set Value Axis(Left-value Axis) in the pop-up settings box, and select Custom in the Display Range area. Set Min Value to 0 and Max Value to 200000, and click OK, as shown in the following figure.
1. Click the Add Dashboard button at the bottom of the editing page of the analysis subject.
2. Drag the component into the dashboard on the dashboard editing page, as shown in the following figure.
3. Select Edit Title from the drop-down list, and set Font Style to Custom. Set the title to Multi-dimensional Scatter Chart, and click OK, as shown in the following figure.
