Stacked Percentage Area Chart

    Application Scenario

    Based on the stacked area chart, the percentage - stacked area chart calculates the percentage of each indicator in the total sum of all indicators.

    For example, you can use a percentage - stacked area chart to show the percentage of each continent in the world, as shown in the following figure.

    Implementation Method

    Use Custom Chart, select Area in the drop-down list under Graphic Property, select Enable Stacking for the vertical axis indicator field, and select Percentage in Value Format.

    Chart Feature

    1. Advantage

    • Intuitive display of proportions intuitively: The percentage - stacked area chart can intuitively display the percentage of each part in the total amount, making it easy to compare the relative sizes of different categories.

    • Emphasis on relative relationships: The percentage - stacked area chart particularly emphasizes the relative relationships between different parts and the whole, rather than their absolute values.

    2. Disadvantage

    • Complexity: When numerous variables are involved, the chart may become complex and difficult to understand, especially when multiple colors are stacked at the same time point.

    • Lack of precise values: The audience cannot directly read specific value information from the chart because the chart displays proportions rather than actual values.

    Example

    Data Preparation

    1. Log in to FineBI, click My Analysis, select a folder, and click New Subject, as shown in the following figure.

    2. Choose Local Excel > Upload Data, as shown in the following figure.

    3. Click OK after the data is uploaded, as shown in the following figure.

    4. Click the # button next to Year in the header, and select Text to set the field format to the text format, as shown in the following figure.

    5. Click Update and Save to complete the data creation, as shown in the following figure.

    Component Creation

    1. Click Component in the lower left corner.

    2. Click the ... button next to the Search bar, select Add Calculation Field, enter the field name as Percentage of Asia in the pop-up settings box, enter the formula Asia/Total Amount, and click OK, as shown in the following figure.

    3. The same method is used to add Percentage of Africa, Percentage of Europe, Percentage of Latin America, and Percentage of North America calculation fields. No repeated explanation is provided here.

    4. Select Custom Chart in Chart Type, and select Area from the drop-down list under Graphic Property.

    5. Drag Year from the left to-be-analyzed area to the horizontal axis of the analysis area, and drag Percentage of Asia, Percentage of Africa, Percentage of Europe, Percentage of Latin America, and Percentage of North America to the vertical axis, as shown in the following figure.

    6. Click the drop-down icon of Percentage of Asia and select Enable Stacking, as shown in the following figure.

    7. The same method is used to enable the stacking effect for the Percentage of Africa, Percentage of Europe, Percentage of Latin America, and Percentage of North America fields. No repeated explanation is provided here.

    8. Click the drop-down icon of Percentage of Asia, select Value Format, select Percentage in the pop-up settings box, and click OK, as shown in the following figure.

    9. The same method is used to set Value Format to Percentage for the Percentage of Africa, Percentage of Europe, Percentage of Latin America, and Percentage of North America fields. No repeated explanation is provided here.

    Component Beautification

    Color Setting

    Drag Indicator Name from the left to-be-analyzed area into the Color bar under Graphic Property > All. Different indicators will be displayed in different colors, as shown in the following figure.

    Vertical Axis Label Setting

    Click the drop-down icon of the Percentage of Asia field on the vertical axis, select Set Value Axis, select Custom in the pop-up setting box, click the blue formula setting icon of Max Value, and set Max Value to 1. Check Display Axis Title, set the title name to Percentage, and click OK, as shown in the following figure.

    Dashboard Creation

    1. Click the Add Dashboard button at the bottom of the editing page of the analysis subject.

    2. Drag the component into the dashboard on the dashboard editing page, as shown in the following figure.

    3. Select Edit Title from the drop-down list, set Font Style to Custom, set the title to Percentage - Stacked Area Chart, and click OK, as shown in the following figure.
