In real analysis scenarios, data lineage relationships can be quite complex. If you want to understand how a specific field in an analysis table is derived, manually tracing it step by step can be tedious.
This product supports tracing fields, automatically identifying their source fields upstream.
You can click the drop-down list, and select Source Step to jump to and locate the creation step of the field.
If the traced source step is in the current subject, the system will directly navigate and locate it. The upstream source field will be highlighted (applying to all areas, including the component analysis section and the pending analysis section).
If the traced source step is located in another subject, the system will open a new browser tab and navigate to the corresponding table and source step. The relevant source field will still be highlighted (applying to all areas, including the component analysis area and pending analysis area).
The Source Step tracing allows you to perform data tracing by selecting fields drop-down lists in the edit pages of data, components, dashboards, and analysis documents.
The field Average Unit Price is calculated by two fields, you can choose which field to trace in Source Step. You can jump to the corresponding analysis step by clicking Unit Price. If you have any questions about the calculation result of Unit Price, you can also trace it back to its source, as shown in the following figure.
For example, if a field name in the analysis area is not fully displayed or has been renamed of a created component, you can use the Source Step drop-down list to trace back to the original field in the pending analysis area, as shown in the following area.
By selecting Source Step from the drop-down list of a field in the pending analysis area, you can jump to the table where the field is located and pinpoint the specific analysis step that generated the field.
For example, you can jump to analysis step page by clicking the Unit Price field in the pending analysis area, as shown in the following figure.
Text components in the dashboard also supports field drop-down lists to view Source Step. Clicking on it will locate the corresponding field's position within the component, as shown in the following figure.
Field drop-down lists in analysis documents also support the Source Step query, as shown in the following figure.
Source Step also supports shortcut operation. You can quickly trace a field by pressing the keyboard shortcut + left-click on a field. If a field has multiple sources, the steps will pop up quickly for choosing.
