The scatter chart is used to display the relationship between two variables, typically used to analyze whether a certain correlation exists between the variables. In a scatter chart, each data point is represented by a dot, where the horizontal coordinate represents the value of one variable and the vertical coordinate represents the value of another variable.
For example, use a scatter chart to display the distribution data of a group of people's height and weight. The red dots represent the data of females, and the blue dots represent the data of males, as shown in the following figure.
The following table describes the basic requirements for scatter charts.
Scatter Chart
> = 1
1. Advantage
Intuitiveness: Scatter charts can visually display the relationship between two variables, allowing you to quickly identify the correlation between variables.
Trend recognition: With scatter charts, you can identify linear or non-linear relationships between variables, including positive correlation, negative correlation, and no correlation.
2. Disadvantage
Nonlinear relationship constraint: Although scatter charts can display nonlinear relationships, they may not be as intuitive as other charts (such as the surface and three-dimensional charts) when illustrating complex relationships.
Data volume limit: When a large number of data points exist, scatter charts may become cluttered, making it difficult for you to distinguish individual points.
1. Log in to FineBI, click My Analysis, select a folder, and click New Subject, as shown in the following figure.
2. Choose Local Excel > Upload Data, as shown in the following figure.
Sample data: Height and Weight Distribution.xlsx
3. Click OK after the data is uploaded, as shown in the following figure.
4. Click the # button next to No. in the header, and select Text to set the field format to Text, as shown in the following figure.
5. Click Save and Update to complete the data preparation, as shown in the following figure.
1. Click Component in the lower left corner.
2. Select Scatter Chart in Chart Type.
3. Drag Height (cm) from the left to-be-analyzed area to the horizontal axis, and drag Weight (kg) to the vertical axis, as shown in the following figure.
4. Drag No. from the left to-be-analyzed area into the Fine-grained bar in the Graphic Property area. In this way, a scatter chart component is successfully created, as shown in the following figure.
Setting the Color
1. Drag Gender in the left to-be-analyzed area into the Color bar in the Graphic Property area. In this way, different genders will be displayed in different colors, as shown in the following figure.
2. Click the color settings button, and set Female as red and Male as blue in the pop-up settings box, as shown in the following figure.
Setting the Size
Click the Size bar in the Graphic Property area, and modify Radius to 5, as shown in the following figure.
Setting Horizontal and Vertical Axis Fields
1. Click the drop-down button of Height (cm) on the horizontal axis, and select Value Format. Set Unit Suffix to cm in the pop-up settings box, and click OK, as shown in the following figure.
2. Click the drop-down button of Height (cm) on the horizontal axis again, select Set Value Axis(Lower-value Axis) in the pop-up settings box, and select Custom in the Display Range area. Set Min Value to MIN(Height(Sum))-5, set Max Value to MAX(Height(Sum))+5, and click OK, as shown in the following figure.
3. Click the drop-down button of Weight (kg) on the vertical axis, and select Value Format. Set Unit Suffix to kg in the pop-up settings box, and click OK, as shown in the following figure.
4. Click the drop-down button of Weight (kg) on the vertical axis again, select Set Value Axis (Left-value Axis) in the pop-up settings box, and select Custom in the Display Range area. Set Min Value to MIN(Weight (kg)(Sum))-5, set Max Value to MAX(Weight (kg)(Sum))+5, and click OK, as shown in the following figure.
1. Click the Add Dashboard button at the bottom of the editing page of the analysis subject.
2. Drag the component into the dashboard on the dashboard editing page, as shown in the following figure.
3. Select Edit Title from the drop-down list, and set Font Style to Custom. Set the title to Scatter Chart, and click OK, as shown in the following figure.
