    Application Scenario

The general area chart is used to display the change of data over time or other ordered categorical variables.

The general area chart emphasizes the cumulative effect and changing trend of data by plotting a series of data points on the x-axis and filling the area below these points with color.

The general area chart is commonly used to show the changes of two or more variables over time, and can be used to compare the relationships between different variables.

For example, you can use the area chart to display the change in Contract Amount over different years, as shown in the following figure.

    Chart Feature

    1. Advantage

    • Emphasis on the cumulative effect of data: The general area chart visually displays the cumulative      effect of data over time by filling the area below the data points, helping users understand the overall trend of change.

    • Trend changes display: The general area chart is very suitable for displaying data that changes over time, such as sales, user growth, and resource consumption, and can clearly reveal upward, downward, or fluctuating trends.

    2. Disadvantage

    • Possible exaggeration of data changes: The filling effect of a general area chart may magnify the changes in data, especially when the differences between data points are small, which may mislead the observer.

    • Difficult to display detailed data points: The general area chart emphasizes the overall trend and cumulative effect of the data, so the chart may not be suitable for displaying the detailed values of individual data points or other non-cumulative data features.
