Optimized the self-service dataset update logic and set infrequently used dataset as inactive tables to save update resources.

    Application Scenarios

This article introduces self-service dataset update settings.

    Functions

    • Self-service dataset updates support Update now or Scheduled Update.

    • You can choose whether to set tables as Update with the Parent Table.

    • Minimal tables do not need to be updated.

    • The system will not update inactive tables to save update resources.

No Need for Update of Minimal Table

    Features of minimal tables:

    • They are self-service datasets without associations.

    • Admins only perform field settings on them, and other operations like filtering, grouping and summary, and adding columns are not performed.

Note: Self-service datasets based on Excel files uploaded directly to My Analysis are not minimal tables.

Minimal tables can obtain data from the parent tables in real-time. You do not need to extract their data for separate updates, which can save the disk memory. Select one minimal table and click Update Information and you can see the prompt: Field selection only. Get the latest data automatically. No need to update.

    Self-service Dataset Update

    Update Now

Except for minimal tables, other self-service datasets being extracted need to be updated, or you cannot get the latest data.

Select the data table as needed, click Update Information > Update Now.

Choosing Whether to Update with the Parent Table

Click update settings, and you can choose to set tables as Update with the Parent Table or Not to Update with the Parent Table.

     QQ图片20230504094121.png

For example, click Data Lineage, and you can see that KANO Analysis Table has one parent table.

     QQ图片20230504094244.png

If you allow it to be updated with the parent table, when the parent table is updated, KANO Analysis Table will be updated at the same time.

If you do not allow it to be updated with the parent table, when the parent table is updated, KANO Analysis Table will not be updated at the same time.

If a parent table has more than one child table, you can set some less frequently used child tables as Not to Update with the Parent Table. In this case, during the parent table update, less data can be updated to reduce the update time. In terms of those child tables that will not be updated with their parent tables, you can update them regularly through Scheduled Update.

Note: If you update a child table separately, and its parent table is a self-service dataset, the parent table will be updated as well.

    1. Admins Setting Default Update Items

In Manage, admins can set whether the self-service dataset will be updated with the parent table by default.

After modifying the Default Update Settings for Self-service Dataset, the previously created self-service datasets will not be affected, and only the self-service datasets created after the modification will be affected.

    Setting Scheduled Update

You can set scheduled updates in the update settings interface.

If you set datasets as Update with the Parent Table, you cannot perform Timing Settings.

If you set datasets as Not to Update with the Parent Table, you can perform Timing Settings.

    Inactive Self-service Dataset

Given that an inactive data table is rarely used, then it will not get involved in any updates to save update resources.

Click the table, and it will prompt that The data is not active and will not be extracted temporarily.

If you need to use this table, click Go Now or Update Information, and then update this table.

Viewing components or dashboards based on inactive tables is also very convenient, as these tables will automatically be updated within about five seconds.

    Admin Controlling Table Activeness

Admins can control tables' activeness through parameters.

    1. Data Access Active Period

If admins set Data access active period(days) as X days, then an active table means that its dashboards or components have been edited or viewed within X days, or its child table is edited and saved within X days.

    2. Data Creation Active Period

If admins set Data creation active period (days) as X days, an active table means that it is created within X days.

    3. Data Activity Global Check Time

Admins can customize the global check time to find new inactive tables.
