Enabling Chart Stacking

  • Last update:  2024-02-27
  • Overview

FineBI provides a switch for you to control component stack in a chart, that is, you can enable the stacking effect when displayed in the chart. For example, the column chart below shows the stacking effect of three indicators: Pageviews, Number of Visits, and Bounces.

    Procedure

The stack switch is disabled by default. You can only enable chart stacking with indicators dragged to Horizontal Axis and Vertical Axis. Besides, the vertical direction must be a dimension field or there are no fields. Stacking display tends to be used in column charts, and it is divided into indicator juxtaposition and indicator aggregation. This document demonstrates how to enable stacking with a column chart.

    Indicator Juxtaposition

You can enable stacking for fine-grained display in case of indicator juxtaposition. For example, choose Internet Channel Statistics under My Analysis > Industry Application > Internet, drag Secondary Channel Name to Horizontal Axis, drag Pageviews, Number of Visits, and Bounces to Vertical Axis, and select Indicator Juxtaposition, as shown in the following figure.

Because the indicators are in juxtaposition and displayed in different coordinate systems, the components are not stacking. If you want to make the secondary channel of the dimension more fine-grained, such as adding the tertiary channel, drag the field Three-level channel name to color in Graphic Property, and you will find that the secondary channel will be divided into tertiary channels with a stacking effect, as shown in the following figure.

In addition, you can drag the field Three-level channel name to Fine-grained in Graphic Property to achieve a stacking effect without various colors.

    Indicator Aggregation

You can enable stacking for overlapping displays in case of indicator aggregation. For example, drag fields Secondary Channel Name, Pageviews, Number of visits, and Bounces to analysis areas mentioned above, and select Indicator Aggregation, as shown in the following figure.

You can see that the columns in the chart are displayed separately. If you want to make the indicators stacked, select Enable Stacking from the drop-down list of each indicator, as shown in the following figure.

Then drag the field Indicator Name to Color in Graphic Property, and all the indicators will be stacked in the chart, as shown in the following figure.

Other charts have similar stacking functionality to column charts, which will not be discussed in detail here.
