Difference between Dashboard Edit and Dashboard Preview

1.1 Application scenario

Solve the problem of abnormal change of values and abnormal dashboard display effect in the dashboard edit and preview interface in daily operation.

Note: This article is only for the operation of the dashboard view, and does not include the configuration differences between the various dashboard edit states.

1.2 Function introduction

• Dashboard edit for the editing and adjustment of components, dashboard styles, layouts, etc., after the dashboard, has been created. 

• Dashboard preview for viewing actual dashboard display data, effects, etc.

Functional differences: Dashboard Edit differs from the preview interface in many ways, such as 1) displaying data; 2) linking, drilling down, adding filter component values and other operations; 3) accessing addresses.

In this chapter, we will introduce the differences between the two so that users can master and operate in due time.

• Dashboard Edit interface: The display is part of the data, which is not fixed but is a random part of the data, and the calculation index is also calculated for part of the data. So the calculation indicator of the edit state part of the data will change after refreshing.

• Dashboard Preview screen: displays the complete data without changes to the calculated metrics.

2.1 Edit status

• Dashboard Edit page: The effects and changes produced by the operations in this interface will be saved in the dashboard and opened again or the interface before closing.

• Dashboard Preview interface: The effects and changes produced by the operation in this interface will not be saved, and the initial interface will be restored when opened again.

3.1 Edit status

Operations such as linking, drilling down, and adding values of filter components done in the edit state of the dashboard are saved in this dashboard and are displayed as the result of the operation by default when the dashboard is subsequently reopened or previewed.

（1）For example, if you click on the Dashboard Edit page to perform a linkage, the dashboard saves the linkage action. As shown in the following figure.

（2）We reopen the dashboard and it still shows the data for the bar you chose. You need to click "Clear all linkages" on the Dashboard Edit page for the previous linkage action to clear.

3.2 Preview status

The actions done by the dashboard in the preview screen such as linking, drilling down, adding values of filter components, etc., are not saved and are only used for viewing.

Note: The dashboard in the listed directory is previewed when you click the "Directory" directly, and some drill-down filtering and other operations will not be saved to the dashboard when you click it, only for preview. 

（1）Click the bar linkage on the Dashboard Preview page, as shown below.

（2）Close the preview screen and reopen this dashboard, the dashboard is still for all data and no previous linkage operation is saved. 

• The dashboard is accessed in the edit screen with the address suffix:/edit

• The dashboard is accessed in the preview screen with the address suffix:/view

4.1 Edit status

For example, the dashboard is in the edit screen and is accessed athttp://localhost:37799/webroot/decision/v5/design/report/b85d56edda2c4cb2a17bb2f8b1f8b5f8/edit as the suffix. This is shown in the following figure.

4.2 Preview status
