Date Drilling

Expected Effect

When viewing data with date as a dimension for statistical analysis, you may need to perform a drill-down operation to obtain more detailed information in the format of year-month-day, as shown in the following figure.

Implementation Ideas

Copy the date dimension field, display it separately in the format of year, year/month, and year/month/day, and create a drill-down directory.

This example uses the built-in data table Store Sales Statistics.

Copying the Date Dimension Field

1. Create a component based on Store Sales Statistics and copy two date dimension fields Sales Date.

2. Rename the two dimension fields respectively as Sales Date—Year/Month and Sales Date—Year/Month/Day.

Setting a Drill-Down Directory

1. Choose  > Create Drill-Down Directory in the Sales Date field.

2. Drag Sales Date—Year/Month and Sales Date—Year/Month/Day into the drill-down directory.

Making a Chart

1. Drag the Sales Date drill-down directory into Dimensions and the Sales Volume field into Indicators. Select Column Chart.

2. Set the grouping method for Sales Date.

Click  to switch the drill-down directory. Set the grouping method for Sales Date to Year, Sales Date—Year/Month to Year/Month, and Sales Date—Year/Month/Day to Year/Month/Day.

3. Switch the drill-down directory back to Sales Date.

Demonstration

Create a dashboard and drag the prepared component into the dashboard. The drill-down effect in the date dimension is shown in the following figure.
