Fetching Data by Calling SAP Functions with Parameters

  • Overview

    Application Scenario

User data is stored in SAP, but due to data security concerns or limited knowledge of underlying tables in SAP, you may find it hard to directly access underlying SAP databases for data extraction.

To solve this problem, you can extract data by calling the pre-built functions in the SAP system through RFC interfaces for further data development and processing.

    Function Description

FineDataLink allows you to fetch data by calling functions that have been developed in the SAP system through RFC interfaces.

For details about how to extract data without parameters, see Fetching Data by Calling SAP Functions Without Parameters.

This document introduces how to extract data with specified parameter values using SAP functions.

    Prerequisite

Before retrieving data and performing data development with SAP ERP, you need to establish a connection between FineDataLink and the SAP system. For details, see SAP Data Connection.

    Procedure

The following figure shows the full data of the country table stored in the SAP system.

Retrieve data when LANDX matches the values shown in the following figure.

    2024-12-27_11-10-55.png

You need to use the Parameter Assignment and Loop Container nodes.

    • Assign the values of LANDX to a parameter to retrieve data that meets the conditions later.

    • Since the parameter has multiple values, you need to use the Loop Container node to traverse the parameter to extract all data that meets the conditions.

    Assigning Values for the Parameter

To retrieve data with specific LANDX values, you need to add the Parameter Assignment node to set the parameter that meets the conditions.

In this example, the debug value of the parameter is set to Andorra for effect checking in the subsequent steps. This debug value does not affect the actual results in later stages, as shown in the following figure.

    Setting the Loop Container Node

Since the parameter has multiple values, you need to use the Loop Container node to traverse the parameter to extract all data that meets the conditions.

Drag in the Loop Container node, set Loop Type to For-Each Loop, and select the parameter country, as shown in the following figure.

    Extracting Data from SAP

    1. Drag the Data Transformation node into the Loop Container node, and click the Data Transformation node to enter the Data Transformation editing page.

    2. Drag in the SAP ERP Input operator, select the data connection created in the section "Prerequisite" as Data Connection, set Configuration Method to Function Calling, and enter the function, as shown in the following figure.

    Data Output

    1. Drag in the DB Output operator and configure it to output the processed data into a database table, as shown in the following figure.

    2. Set Write Method to Write Data into Target Table Directly.

    3. Click the Save button in the upper right corner.

    4. Run the task.
