Converting Indicator Fields into Geographical Roles

    Application Scenario

    You can convert text fields to geographical roles (longitude/latitude) based on the document Converting Dimension Fields into Geographical Roles. You can convert value fields (longitude/latitude fields) stored in the original data tables based on this document.

    Function Description

    FineBI provides the function of converting indicator fields to geographic roles. You can convert value fields (latitude/longitude fields) stored in the data table to geographic roles and use them in geographic charts.

    Procedure

    You can download the example data Branch Office Dimension Table.xlsx.

    Create a component through the downloaded example data Branch Office Dimension Table and convert the Branch Office Latitude and Branch Office Longitude indicator fields in the area to be analyzed to geographic roles.

    Converting Indicator Fields to Geographic Roles

    1. Click the ▼ icon of the Branch Office Longitude field and choose Longitude from the shortcut menu of Geographic Role, as shown in the following figure.

    2. Click the ▼ icon of the Branch Office Latitude field and choose Latitude from the shortcut menu of Geographic Role, as shown in the following figure.

    Creating a Map

    Create a map component after converting the indicator fields to geographic roles. Take the point map as an example. Click the Point Map icon and drag the Branch Office Longitude field into Horizontal Axis, the Branch Office Latitude field into Vertical Axis, and the Branch Office City field into Color, as shown in the following figure.

    Notes

    Longitude/Latitude Conversion Error

    The value range of the latitude in the globe is from -90 degrees to 90 degrees. The value range of the longitude in the globe is from -180 degrees to 180 degrees.

    If the longitude and the latitude are reversed when you convert indicator fields into geographical roles, the map will become a straight line, as shown in the following figure.
