Overview
Application Scenario
When using map-related charts in FineBI, you can refer to the document Converting Indicator Fields into Geographic Roles to convert value fields (longitude/latitude fields) stored in original data tables into geographic roles. This document introduces how to convert text fields (such as provinces, cities, and regions) stored in the database into geographic roles for use in maps.
Function Description
FineBI supports the conversion from dimension fields into geographic roles. Text fields stored in data tables can be converted into geographic roles so that the fields can be used in geographic charts.
Procedure
Use the data table to create a component. The dimension fields in the to-be-analyzed area, such as Country, Province, and City, can be converted into geographical roles.
Converting Dimension Fields into Geographic Roles
Click the icon and select Geographic Role from the drop-down list. There are five options for Geographic Role: Country/Region, Province/City/Autonomous Region, City, District/County, and Custom Image. Select the corresponding geographic role based on the dimension field.
For example, select Province/City/Autonomous Region for the Province field, as shown in the following figure.
Matching Geographic Roles
1. On the geographic role matching page, FineBI will automatically match the field content to the built-in geographic information in the system, as shown in the following figure.
The system will automatically match the geographical roles. If some fields cannot be matched automatically, you can manually match them or check if they comply with FineBI's matching rules. For details, see Geographical Role Matching Rules.
2. The Province field is converted into geographical roles (longitude and latitude fields), as shown in the following figure.
Creating a Component
Click the Area Map icon and drag Province (Longitude) and Province (Latitude) into the analysis area to generate an area map, as shown in the following figure.
