When you create a component, View All Data is selected by default. In this case, the amount of data displayed on the dashboard editing page is consistent with that on the dashboard preview page.
You may find that the amount of data displayed on these two pages differs after you deselect View All Data. Besides, you may find that the settings are canceled after you perform some operations (such as filtering and linking) on the dashboard preview page and reopen the dashboard.
1. The premise of this document is that you have deselected View All Data.
2. This document only covers the operations for viewing dashboards and does not include the configuration differences among various dashboard editing statuses.
Dashboard editing: the process of editing and making adjustments to components, dashboard styles, layouts, etc. after you create a dashboard.
Dashboard preview: the process of viewing the actual display data and effects of the dashboard.
Functional differences: There are several differences between the dashboard editing page and the dashboard preview page, such as data display, linkage, drilling down, adding filter component values, and accessing the URL.
This document introduces the differences between these two pages so that you can understand and operate them properly.
Dashboard editing page: The displayed data is partial (randomly) and unfixed, and the calculation indicators are also calculated based on the partial data. Therefore, the calculation indicators of the data in the editing status will change after being refreshed.
Dashboard preview page: The displayed data is complete, and calculation indicators metrics will not change.
For example, the created dashboard shows the sales volume changes over months. You cannot find 2017-06 on the dashboard editing page.
If you want to display all data on the editing page, go to the component editing page and select View All Data.
The dashboard preview page displays all months from 2017-03 to 2017-09, as shown in the following figure.
Dashboard editing page: The effects and changes made on the page will be saved in the dashboard. When you reopen the page, the effects and changes remain.
Dashboard preview page: The effects and changes made on this page will not be saved. When you reopen the page, it will revert to the initial page.
Operations such as linking, drilling, and adding filter components performed in the dashboard in editing status will be saved in the dashboard. When the dashboard is reopened or previewed, it will display the results of the operations by default.
1. For example, if you set a filter for the data in April 2017 on the dashboard editing page, the dashboard will save the operation.
2. When you preview the dashboard, you will view the data for that filter condition, as shown in the following figure.
Operations such as linking, drilling, and adding filter components performed in the dashboard will not be saved and are only for viewing.
1. Set the filter to display data for April 2017 on the dashboard preview page, as shown in the following figure.
2. Go back to the dashboard editing page, and you can see that the dashboard still displays all data without filtering.
