Application Scenario

After adding the basic table, you can make some edits and modifications, including field type conversion, field sort, self-looping column, and row-column conversion.

All tables in Public Data, except for the self-service dataset, are basic tables.

Function Description

FineBI allows you to perform editing operations on the added basic table.

Self-Looping Column and Row-Column Conversion are not available to direct-connected data tables.

Going to the Editing Page

Select a table to edit from Public Data. You can go to the editing page in two ways, as shown in the following figure. 

Selecting Fields

On the editing page, you can select only the fields that need to be used.

For example, if the field Line number is not needed, you can deselect it. 

Field Type Conversion

1. Click the + icon and select Field Type Conversion from the drop-down list.

2. Convert the field type of Initial amount from Text to Value.

Note:

1. The amount of occupied memory varies with field types. For example, converting the field type from Text to Date will increase the memory occupied by the table.

2. When the converted format is not standardized (such as converting the text a into a value), the field will become an empty field after conversion in the extracted data mode, while it may become an empty field or report an error in the direct-connected data mode.

Field Sort

You can adjust the order of the fields in Field Settings.

You can click Field Settings and then drag Project ID to the first column, as shown in the following figure.

Self-Looping Column and Row-Column Conversion

Self-Looping Column and Row-Column Conversion can be set for extracted data tables.

For details, see Self-Looping Column (Hierarchy Based on One Column of Data), Self-Looping Column (Hierarchy Based on Two Columns of Data), and Row-Column Conversion.

Saving Edits

Click Save to save all editing settings. Click the × icon to exit the current page, as shown in the following figure.

If the table is from direct-connected data, you can use it directly after clicking Save. If the table is from extracted data, you need to save and update it before using it. 

Field Type Conversion Rules

The following table shows supported text formats that can be converted to time type for extracted data. If no hour, minute, or second is in the text, it will be automatically filled in with 0 after conversion to time.

Data Retrieval Failure

If the data is disconnected, a prompt will occur, indicating "Failed to connect to the fl database. Check the date connection." In this case, you need to check if the database is connected properly.

Dataset Calculation Volume Exceeding the Data Volume Limit

Description

When you use the Row-Column Conversion and Self-Looping Column functions, the following message will be displayed in the preview area: "The dataset calculation volume exceeds the data volume limit, causing calculation and update failure. Reduce the volume of data to be updated or contact the administrator to solve it."

Cause

This error message will occur if the data volume calculated after Row-Column Conversion and Self-Looping Column exceeds the data access limit set by the admin.

Solution

You can reduce the data volume in the table to avoid the error when performing Row-Column Conversion and Self-Looping Column.

Preview Error After Field Type Conversion

Description

The project is deployed in the WebSphere container and is a Spider engine. When you edit the SQL dataset for field type conversion, an error message occurs after you click Preview.

Error 500: com.fr.third.springframework.web.util.NestedServletException: Handler processing failed; nested exception is java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com.finebi.spider.cluster.spark.ContextManager (initialization failure)

Cause

The error is caused by the class loading mechanism in J9 VM.

Solution

Solution one: Migrate the project deployed in the WebSphere container to another container, such as the Tomcat container.

Solution two: Disable J9 VM and replace it with JDK8 from the official Oracle website.

Failure to Display Added Fields

Description

You have updated the table source of the Excel dataset and added some fields.

However, you cannot find the added fields when you preview them after saving.

Cause

In the dataset editing steps, you do not select the added fields.

Solution

To solve the problem, you can edit the dataset and select the added fields during field selection.
