    Application Scenarios

This document introduces how to choose the appropriate filtering method in different scenarios in practical use.

    Functions

When creating a dashboard, you can select four types of filtering: A. Filter Component, B. Filter Detail, C. Result Filter, and D. filter in the analysis area.

    • You can flexibly change the data to be filtered in the dashboard through Filter Component.

    • The filtered data is only displayed in the dashboard through other filtering methods.

    Filter Component

When encountering the following two scenarios, you are advised to use Filter Component:

    • Change the values to be filtered flexibly when viewing the dashboard.

    • Filter multiple components at the same time.

    Filter Component filters detailed data.

    Filter Detail

Filter Detail filters detailed data. When encountering the following two scenarios, you are advised to use Filter Detail:

    • Filter out data that does not need to be calculated: When making a dashboard with only part of the original data in the data table, you can use Filter Detail in the component editing interface to filter out the needed data, and the excluded data will not be included in component calculation.

    • Filter out partial original data of a field and use the filtered data for calculation. This is the most common usage of Filter Detail.

For example, you can use Filter Detail to filter data of the copied Gross Profit field to obtain Gross Profit of Product A (filter out part of the gross profit data that belongs to Product A).

By using the filtering condition Gross Profit of Product A/Gross Profit, you can obtain the proportion of Gross Profit of Product A to Gross Profit.

    Result Filter

When you want to use a field for filtering, but do not want the field to participate in component generation or to appear in the component, you can use Result Filter.

For example, you filter by Sales Date, but Sales Date is not involved in the generation of Group Table.

    Filtering in the Analysis Area

Results can be filtered in the analysis area.

When you only want to filter and display partial results, you can use Filter in the analysis area.

Take an example (filter the month-on-month data of July, August, and September) to understand the difference between filtering detailed data and filtering calculation results.

    • If detailed data is filtered, the component will lose the MoM data in July because there is no data in June to participate in the calculation.

    • If data is filtered in the analysis area, the system will first calculate the result, and then filter the result. The data involved in the calculation will not be affected, so the data of July will not be lost.

Using Multiple Filter Conditions and Filter Functions

When there are multiple filtering methods:

Execution order: Filter the detailed data first, and then filter the results.

Execution result: Take the intersection data of multiple filtering results.
