  • Overview

    Application Scenario

    The heatmap displays the weight of each data point in the coordinate through special highlighting and displays the differences of indicator data through the highlighted colors with different degrees.

    You can use the heatmap in the following scenarios:

    • The monthly distribution of the average temperature per day in a region needs to be displayed.

    • The monthly distribution of the rainfall in the past few years needs to be displayed.

    Basic Requirement

    The following table shows the basic requirements for the heatmap.

    Chart Feature

    Advantage: The heatmap can clearly present the distribution, frequency, or density of data between two dimensions.

    Disadvantage: The heatmap is unsuitable for precise data analyses because of its extremely soft effect.

    Procedure

    Data Preparation

    1. Log in to the system as the admin, click My Analysis, select a folder, and click New Subject, as shown in the following figure.

    2. Click Local Excel and click Upload Data, as shown in the following figure.

    You can download the sample data Annual Temperature.xlsx.

    3. After the upload, set the type of the Time field to Text and click OK, as shown in the following figure.

    Component Adding

    1. Click Component in the lower left corner, as shown in the following figure.

    Chart Generating

    1. Click the Custom Chart icon in Chart Type and drag the Date field into Horizontal Axis and the Time field into Vertical Axis, as shown in the following figure.

    2. Group the Date field by Year-Month, as shown in the following figure.

    3. Click the Heatmap icon in Chart Type and drag the Temperature field into Thermal Color, as shown in the following figure.

    iconNote:

    1. You can use the heatmap only when two dimension fields (with zero or more indicator fields) exist on the horizontal and vertical axes, otherwise the icon in Chart Type is grayed out and cannot be clicked.

    4. Display the average temperature, as shown in the following figure.

    Choose Component Style > Legend and deselect Display All Legends, as shown in the following figure.
