FineDataLink enables you to process data from multiple kinds of data sources using the Data Development, Data Pipeline, Data Service, and Database Table Management modules by establishing data connections.
Before using FineDataLink to process and synchronize data, you need to define the data connection so that you can easily determine the data source and destination by selecting the database, the data connection, and the data table sequentially during data processing.
This document introduces the information you need to know when configuring data connections.
Inspection Item
Description
Database type and version (mandatory)
The Data Development, Data Pipeline, Data Service, and Database Table Management modules of FineDataLink support different data sources. The data sources supported at the read and write ends of the same module are also different. For details, see Data Sources Supported by FineDataLink.
Registration status of function points (mandatory)
You need to register the function points before using the data source. For details, see Function Point Limit.
Network access and permission (mandatory)
The FineDataLink server can be connected to the database server.
The database port on the server needs to be opened.
Permission required to create a data connection
1. You must have access to Data Connection Management under System Management > Data Connection to create a data connection in the data connection root directory.
2. For FineDataLink V4.1.12.3 and later versions, you should have Management permission on a folder to create data connections in that folder.
User's permission on data connections (mandatory)
To add or delete data using FineDataLink, the users of the data connections need to have corresponding database privileges.
For details about the general steps, see Data Source Creation and Management. For details about data connection steps for each database, see the corresponding help document (for example, Oracle Data Connection).
The following table displays the functions that may be used when you create data connections.
Function
Driver uploading (optional)
You may need to upload drivers when configuring data connections for some databases. For details, see Driver Management.
You are advised to use the driver file in the document or the latest official driver file that matches the database version.
Authentication (optional)
You may need to select authentication methods for some databases when configuring data connections, such as Kerberos Authentication in Data Connection. For details, see the documents of corresponding database connections.
1. You can use the data sources in function modules of FineDataLink after configuring the data connections. For details, see Overview of Scheduled Task, Overview of Data Service, Overview of Data Pipeline, and Database Table Management.
2. The use of some functions is limited for some data sources. For details, see Functional Limitations of Different Data Sources, and the description of the specific data connection setting procedure (for example, Amazon Redshift Instruction).
After a data connection is successfully configured, you can assign the Use, Management, and Authorization permission on the data connection to other users.
After being granted Use, Management, and Authorization permission on a folder, you have Use, Management, and Authorization permission on all the data connections in the folder.
The folder/data connection creator has Use and Management permission on that folder/data connection by default.
In V4.1.12.3 and later versions, data connections can be managed by folder.
1. Data Connection Use Permission
After being granted Use permission on a folder, the user can view this folder, but cannot modify or move the folder, nor create a data connection in this folder.
After being granted Use permission on a data connection, the user can view the data connection and use the connection in data development tasks.
2. Data Connection Management Permission
After being granted Management permission on a folder, the user has Use permission automatically. On this basis, the user can delete, rename, and move the folder, and create data connections in this folder.
After being granted Management permission on a data connection, the user has Use permission automatically. On this basis, the user can modify data connection configurations, and copy and paste, delete, rename, and move the data connection.
3. Data Connection Authorization Permission
After being granted Authorization permission on a folder, the subordinate admin can assign Use, Management, and Authorization permission on any data connections in the folder to users within the management scope under System Management > Permission Management.
After being granted Authorization permission on a data connection, the subordinate admin can assign Use, Management, and Authorization permission on the data connection to users within the management scope under System Management > Permission Management.
1. For details about errors in data connection configuration and solutions, see Data Connection Troubleshooting.
2. When you configure the Transwarp Inceptor and Hadoop Hive data sources, you need to set the HDFS URL. For details, see Confirming IP Address and Port Number in HDFS URL.
