Custom Map Drilling

Expected Effect

Sometimes you may want to customize regions for drilling. For example, a company has designated Jiangsu-Zhejiang Region and Yunnan-Guizhou Region as two major operation sites to examine the sales volume in each area through drilling.

Implementation Method

1. Set the map for customization.

2. Set the drilling.

Adding a Directory

To create a custom map, you need to build your directory first. The final directory to be built in this example is shown in the following figure.

Drawing a Project Operation Map

1. Choose System Management > Map Configuration > Geographic Information, add a new directory in the world directory, and name the directory Project Operation Map.

2. Click the Polygon icon, find Yunnan Province and Guizhou Province in the Project Operation Map, draw them on the map, set the name to Yunnan-Guizhou Region, and then click Save. Use the same method to draw the Jiangsu-Zhejiang Region.

After the map is drawn, remember to click the Save button in the upper right corner, otherwise, the map will be lost.

Drawing the Yunnan-Guizhou Region

Add a Yunnan-Guizhou Region directory in the Project Operation Map and use the same method as Drawing a Project Operation Map to draw Yunnan and Guizhou on the map.

Set the name to Yunnan and Guizhou respectively.

Drawing the Jiangsu-Zhejiang Region

Add a Jiangsu-Zhejiang Region directory in the Project Operation Map and name the two regions Zhejiang and Jiangsu respectively.

Now you have created the map and directory.

Map Level Description

Corresponding to the built-in geographic information in FineBI, the Project Operation Map is at the same level as China, and the Yunnan-Guizhou Region and Jiangsu-Zhejiang Region are at the same level as Province.

The levels at which custom maps are located are shown in the following figure.

Creating a Drilling Map Component

Data Preparation

1. You can download the data used in this example. Map Data Demo.xlsx

2. Choose New Subject > Local Excel and upload the downloaded file Map Data Demo to FineBI.

3. After the file is uploaded, click Add Component to create components.

Converting Fields into Geographic Roles

1. According to the Map Level Description, Yunnan-Guizhou Region and Jiangsu-Zhejiang Region are at the Province/City/Autonomous Region level.

Click the icon  and choose Geographical Role ＞ Province/City/Autonomous Region.

2. Enter the geographic role matching page, select the Project Operation Map from the drop-down list of Country/Region, and click OK.

3. Province is the next level of Region while Region is at the level of Province/City/Autonomous Region.

So the Province field needs to match the City level as shown in the following figure.

4. Similarly, select the Project Operation Map from the drop-down list of Country/Region.

Creating a Drill Directory

Drag the Province field below the Region field and the system will automatically create a drill directory Region, Province.

Creating an Area Map

1. Select the Chart Type as Area Map and drag the dimension fields into the horizontal and vertical axes respectively. Drag the drill directory Region, Province into the Fine-grained bar.

2. Drag the Sales field into the Color bar, and map the size of the sales to the color of the map.

Effect Display

Click Add Dashboard and drag the created component to the dashboard.
