Data connection Use permission refers to a user's permission to use data connection and create server datasets in the FineBI system.

Assign the Use permission of the data connection BI Demo to Maintenance engineer in Development department, so that the Maintenance engineer can use the data connection to create database tables/SQL datasets in Public Data.

Setting User Types

In the Platform User interface, if there is No limit on user number of PC User and its subcategories, you do not need to perform the operation introduced in this section.

In the Platform User interface, if the number of users in PC User and its subcategories is limited, you need to follow the procedures in this section, otherwise you cannot view the dashboard.

The admin logs into the FineBI system, clicks Manage > User > Platform User, and adds Maintenance engineer in Development department to BI design user.

Enabling Data Connection Control

The admin logs into FineBI, goes to Manage > Permission > Global Setting, enables Data Connection Control, and clicks Save.

Note: When you disable Data Connection Control, you cannot have any use permissions of Data Connection by default.

Assigning Use Permission of Data Connection

The admin logs into FineBI, goes to Manage > Permission > General permission configuration, and selects Dept., Role or users in User List.

Take Maintenance engineer in Development department as an example. Select Data Connection and assign the Use permission of Data Connection BI Demo to Maintenance engineer.

Assigning Manage Permission in Data Authorization

The admin logs into FineBI, goes to Manage > Permission > General permission configuration, and selects Dept., Role or users in User List..

Take Maintenance engineer in Development department as an example. Select Data Authorization and assign the Manage permission for Analysis Data to the Maintenance engineer.

Note: If you do not have the management permission for the folders in public data, you cannot create basic database tables in that folder.

Demonstration

Maintenance engineer Jenny logs into FineBI and can use the data connection BI Demo in Public Data > Analysis Data > Add Dataset > Database Table.

Maintenance engineer Jenny logs into FineBI and can use data connection BI Demo in Public Data > Analysis Data > Add Dataset > SQL Dataset.

Assign the Use permission of the data connection BI Demo to Maintenance engineer in Development department, so that the Maintenance engineer can use the Data Connection to create server dataset in FineBI system.

Enabling Data Connection Control

The super admin logs into FineBI, goes to Manage > Permission > Global Setting, enables Hierarchical Authorization and Data Connection Control, and clicks Save.

Assigning Use Permission of Data Connection

The admin logs into FineBI, goes to Manage > Permission > General permission configuration, and selects Dept., Role or users in User List.

Take Maintenance engineer in Development department as an example. Select Permission > Data Connection and assign the Use permission of Data Connection BI Demo to Maintenance engineer.

Configuring Use Permissions of Manage

The admin logs into FineBI, goes to Manage > Permission > General permission configuration, and selects Dept., Role or User.

Take Maintenance engineer in Development department as an example. Select Manage, and configure the Use permission of Data Connection for Maintenance engineer.

Demonstration

Maintenance engineer Jenny logs into FineBI, clicks Manage > Data Connection > Server Dataset, and can use the data connection BI Demo to create a server dataset.
