    Application Scenario

    Legends explain the content and indicators represented by chart symbols and colors, aiding in a better understanding of the chart. By configuring legends, you can help other users better understand the chart content.

    Function Description

    Requirements for generating legends: Drag fields to Color, Size, Shape, Thermal Color, and Radius in Graphic Property to generate corresponding legends.

    The following figure shows the setting in this example.

    Example

    Displaying All Legends

    When you create a chart and drag multiple fields to Graphic Property, the legend for each field will be displayed. If you tick Display All Legends, all legends will be displayed, as shown in the following figure.

    Displaying Some Legends

    If you deselect Display All Legends, you can select which legends to be displayed as needed, as shown in the following figure.

    If no graphic properties are selected in Display All Legends, no legends will be displayed.

    Title

    If only one legend exists, you can deselect Display next to Title to hide the legend title because what the legend represents is very clear, as shown in the following figure.

    In FineBI 5.1.14 and later versions, you can change field names to modify legend titles after dragging fields to Color, Size, Shape, etc.

    Font

    You can select the Auto font setting of the system or select Custom to customize the font size, weight, etc. After customizing the legend font, you can view the effect as shown in the following figure.

    Border

    Border is set to Transparent by default. You can set the color of the legend border as shown in the following figure.

    Location

    You can customize Location of the legends as shown in the following figure.

    Legend Order

    The order of the legends is consistent with the sorting of the fields. You can adjust the legend order as needed.

    1. For example, if you want to adjust the legend order, you can click the dropdown icon to choose Descend > Contract Amount(Sum) to sort the field Country by Contract Amount(Sum), as shown in the following figure.

    2. The legend order changes accordingly after the sorting is completed, as shown in the following figure.

    Custom Grouping

    Drag the field to Color of the column chart, as shown in the following figure.

    If you find that too many legends are displayed on the right, you can customize the legend groups. 

    1. Hover your cursor over the field in Color and click the dropdown icon to select Customize Grouping, as shown in the following figure.

    2. Click Add Group, as shown in the following figure.

    3. Select the fields in Ungrouped and move them to the created group, as shown in the following figure.

    4. Tick Assign Ungrouped Value to Other and click OK, as shown in the following figure.

    You can create more groups. This section is just a simple demonstration.

    Functional Change

    1. Refined Legend Icon

    Rectangles and lines are used to refine legend icons to distinguish between column/line charts, as shown in the following figure.

    2. Optimized Legend Interaction

    Legends with too many fields in the Fine-grained bar lead to a cluttering chart display. FineBI 6.0 allows you to control the chartcontent to be displayed through legend interaction.

    (1). Click the legend text or icon for the first time to gray out the legend and click again to display the legend. The following figure shows the effect.

    When a legend is grayed out, corresponding data in the chart is hidden.

    (2). When you hover your cursor over a displayed legend, the legend icon shifts to a fixed pin1656405420327780.png. The color of the pin changes with the corresponding column in the chart.

    (3). When all legends are displayed, to view a particular legend, click the pin of the legend to hide other legends. Click the corresponding icons to display the hidden legends. When only one series in the chart is displayed, click the pin of the series to display all series.

    Other Notes

    Switching Chart Types After Setting Legends

    After configuring the legends, the following introduces whether the previous configuration will be retained or not when you switch chart types.

    1. If the original chart is a custom chart:

    If you switch chart types in Graphic Property, the legend configuration will be retained.

    If you switch chart types in Chart Type above Graphic Property, the legend configuration will not be retained.

    2. If the original chart is a non-custom chart:

    If you switch the chart to a custom chart in Graphic Property, the legend configuration will be retained.

    If you switch the chart to another non-custom chart in Chart Type above Graphic Property,  the legend configuration will not be retained.
