Analyzing in the Table

  • Overview

After adding data in the subject, you can analyze and visually display the data.

This article will introduce how to create tables and analyze them in components.

    Application Scenarios

This section will introduce some application scenarios that will be involved in the following examples.

    Component

In FineBI, you can create charts and tables in components for visual display.

By dragging data fields into the analysis area and selecting the chart type, you can create charts or tables.

The functions of each area in the component editing interface are shown in the following figure:

    Table

There are three types of tables in FineBI: group table, detail table, and cross table.

Group table is the most practical form. It combines the data of the same field in the table and displays it as a group, allowing for multidimensional analysis.

    How to Analyze Data

After you have identified the dimensions and indicators for analysis, you need to further process and adjust the data for better display.

You can click the dropdown of the corresponding field in the analysis area and choose the setting option to adjust the data.

Simple data processing can be done on Dimensions, such as sorting, filtering and field grouping.

Data calculations can be done on Indicators, such as quick calculation and setting data bar.

    Example

The previous two sections have introduced the analysis subject and data. You have followed the documents, successfully adding three tables and making a simple analysis on product sales detail table.

In this section, you will learn to use tables to further analyze data in the component.

    Making a Group Table

Analyze the sales amount of different products in the product sales detail table.

Select Subject, and click Edit > Add Component, and switch the dataset to Sales Information.

Create a group table: 1. Drag Name, Quantity, Sales, Gross profit to the field boxes. 2. Select Group Table.

    Adjusting Data

Based on the group table created in the last section, you can find the top ten products with the highest sales amount.

    1. Firstly, you should sort the sales amount in descending order. 2. Filter out the top three products with the highest order quantity.

    Notes:

    1. If Sales Information is the first table in the data, you can directly edit it in the component without switching the data.

    2. If you switch data to make a new component, you do not need to keep field settings.3.2.gif

    Quick Calculation

It is common to find that the existing data cannot meet the analysis needs after you analyze the data for a period of time, and further calculations are needed.

For example, if you want to view the paid amount for each month and the month-on-month growth rate of it, how to achieve that when the data only has the date (Year Month Day) field?

    3.3.png

    1. Click Add component at the bottom. Still use the product sales detail table to make a group table. Drag Date(Year Month Day) and Gross profit to the field boxes and select Group Table.

    2. Modify the date display format: Click Date(Year Month Day), set it as YM in the dropdown list, and rename as Date.

    3. Calculate the change rate of monthly gross profit. Drag Gross profit to the field box, click Quick Calculation(None) > Year-on-year/Month-on-month > Month-on-month, and rename it as Gross profit-MOM.

Month-on-month growth rate can reflect the change in gross profit from one month to the next, indicating whether it has increased or decreased, and by how much.

    Skills and Beautification

This article will also introduce you some skills for making group tables.

    1. Viewing Results from Different Dimensions

Switching between different dimensions allows you to view different results.

After receiving data, you may want to switch between different dimensions and make summary analysis on a certain indicator to achieve an analytical effect.

For example, if you want to see the sales amount, you can drag Sales to view the total sales amount. Then, you can drag Date, City, and Store NO. to Dimensions to see the sales amount situation of different dates, cities, and stores.

    2. Expanding/Folding Data

The group table will automatically fold the data within the group. If you have multiple fields in a dimension and find the data display not detailed enough, there are two ways to expand the data: 1. Click + in front of the dimension field in the preview area. 2. Click Component Style > Format > Expand Row Header Node.

    3.4.2.gif

    3. Adjusting the Summary Mode

The default summary mode is summing up the values. Also there are different ways to summarize values in FineBI, such as average, maximum and minimum.

    3.4的图.png

Click the field in Indicators and set different summary modes in the dropdown list. Click Summary Mode(Sum) and select among different modes.

Set the summary modes of Sales for all products under Category as Sum, maximum, and Average.

    4. Changing the Unit of Measurement

This article has created two grouping tables. Through these two tables, you can know the top ten products with the highest sales volume and the month-on-month growth rate of gross profit at different times.

However, the units of measurement are too large and difficult to read. You can change the unit to Ten Thousand and rename the component.
