The calendar heatmap is a type of time series chart that combines a heatmap and a calendar chart. The calendar heatmap is a bivariate chart consisting of a time variable and another variable. The calendar heatmap can reflect the value distribution in a certain period, helping analysts compare and analyze certain data over different time spans.
You can use the calendar heatmap in the following scenarios.
You want to display the number of steps taken each day this year, with different color shades indicating the number of steps taken on each day.
You want to show the air quality of a city by displaying the city's daily PM2.5 data this year.
The following figure shows the effect.
The following section describes the basic requirements for the calendar heatmap.
1. The dimension field must be equal to or greater than 1 and must be in a complete date format.
2. The date data must be continuous, otherwise the calendar heatmap cannot be arranged in order.
Advantage: The calendar heatmap effectively combines the heatmap and the calendar chart, clearly presenting the indicator changing with the calendar.
Disadvantage: The calendar heatmap is only suitable for displaying changes in one or two indicators.
