Overview
Application Scenario
This document introduces geographic role match rules in detail.
Function Description
FineBI provides four levels of geographic roles: Country/Region, Province/City/Autonomous Region, City, and District/County, allowing you to match fields with geographic roles at the corresponding level.
Geographic Role Match
The geographic role match is to match the geographic roles in geographic information with fields in your data.
Geographic Information
Choose System Management > Map Configuration > Geographic Information to view that the built-in geographic information in FineBI includes the world and China (with provinces, cities, and counties) maps, as shown in the following figure.
Areas are matched when you match geographic roles with fields. You can customize geographic roles (including areas and names). For details, see Geographic Information.

Field Match
The field match is to match fields with geographic roles in geographic information.
1. Click the ▼ icon of a text field (dimension field) and select Geographic Role from the drop-down list. You can view four levels: Country/Region, Province/City/Autonomous Region, City, and District/County, as shown in the following figure.
2. Select the corresponding level (such as City) based on the field. The setting page for the geographic role match pops up automatically, as shown in the following figure.

3. You can manually match fields with geographic roles if the system fails to perform the automatic match. You can also match fields with geographic roles by entering keywords in the search box, as shown in the following figure.
4. Click OK. You can configure the area map after finishing the match.
Geographic Role Match Rules
Data can only be matched with the corresponding level. For example, if you choose Province/City/Autonomous Region from the shortcut menu of Geographic Role, only data corresponding to this level can be matched. Data at other levels cannot be matched.
In the built-in geographic information of FineBI, directly-administered municipalities are at the Province/City/Autonomous Region level. Counties directly administered by the provincial government are at the City level. For example, directly administered municipalities and autonomous regions cannot be matched with the City level (prefecture-level cities), as shown in section "Field Match." For details about how to make a direct match between directly administered municipalities and the City level, see Geographic Role (City) Match of the Directly-Administered Municipality and the Special Administrative Region.
Except for the map of China, subordinate geographical information does not exist on the maps of other countries and regions worldwide.
Multiple fields (matched to the same region) will not be merged. For example, if your data contains fields such as Guangdong and Guangdong Province, both of these fields are matched with Guangdong Province when you match provinces. But the final result is displayed separately, rather than being merged.
Notes
The world map in Map Configuration does not display complete geographic information of other countries.
However, the world-area.json file (in the %FineBI%\webapps\webroot\WEB-INF\assets\map\geographic path) contains the geographic information of all other countries. The geographic role page can be fully matched.
