Column and Row Split

  • I. Overview

    1) When report data includes a large number of rows/columns, a large blank area will arise. Column & row split is to make the most of the report space.

    2) There are two types of split:

    • Row split: A new column is created if the number of rows exceeds a number.

    • Column split: A new row is created if the number of columns exceeds a number.

    3) Prerequisites: Insert Data ColumnsCell ExpansionPage Settings and Cell Element Settings.

    II. Row Split

    1. Create a new dataset [ds1].

    1) Create a new DB query dataset.

    2) Drag the table [SEMPLOYEE] into the DB query.

    2. Drag data columns into cells

    1) Drag data columns [EMPNAME], [QUALIFICATION] and [TITLE] into B3~D3. Expand direction is set as default: Vertically.

    2) Enter the following headers respectively in B2:D2: Employee, Title and Qualification.

    3) Merge B1~D1 and enter titles: Employee Info.

    3. Adjust report style

    1) Modify text color and cell fill color.

    2) Add inner and outer borders for B2~D3, with the left and right outer borders being bolded.

    4. Select [Template] > [Page Setup] and modify the Orientation to [Landscape]

    5. Preview

    The browser window is not big enough to display all vertically expanded data, so you have to scroll the report vertically to view the data.

    6. Row Split—Fixed lines per column

    1) Select [Template] > [Multi-Columns/Lines]

    2) Click [Turn On] to set Row Split

    • Column Section Style: Select [Row Split] and set [Over 10 Row then split]

    • Column Section: set [Column Section Data] as B3:D3 and [Copy Row Sequence] as 2.

    • Check [Supplement Blank Line]

    7. Preview

    1) Data in the excess of 10 rows are displayed in a new column on the right side.

    2) Headers are repeated on each page.

    3) Even if the last column is less than 10 rows, the blank rows are still bordered.

    8. Row Split—Fixed Columns per line

    1) The [Row Split] pane pops up.

    2) Column Section Style: Click [Fixed Lines per column] and set [Split to 2 Column].

    9. Preview

    Data are split into two columns, with each column displaying almost the same number of data items.

    III. Column Split

    1. Create a new dataset [ds1].

    1) Create a new DB query dataset.

    2) Drag the table [flow] into the DB query.

    2. Drag data columns into cells

    1) Drag all data columns into C2~C6, and set the Expand Direction as [Horizontally].

    2) Enter the following headers respectively in B2~B6: Time, Inflow, Outflow, Gasflow and Excess flow.

    3) Adjust the style of B2~C6, set cell fill color, and add borders, with the upper and lower outer borders being bolded.

    3. Modify Orientation

    Select [Template] > [Page Setup] and modify the Orientation to [Landscape].

    4. Preview

    The browser window is not wide enough to display all horizontally expanded data, so you have to scroll the page to view the data.

    5. Column Split—Fixed columns per line

    1) Select [Template] > [Multi-Columns/Lines].

    2) Click [Turn On] to set Column Split.

    • Column Section Style: Select [Column Split] and set [Over 5 Column then split].

    • Column Section: set [Column Section Data] as C2:C6 and [Copy Column Sequence] as 2.

    • Check [Supplement Blank Line].


    6. Preview

    1) Data in the excess of 5 columns are displayed in a new column below.

    2) Headers are repeated on each page.

    IV. Within-group column Split

    1. Create a new dataset [ds1]

    1) Create a new DB query dataset.

    2) Drag the table [STSCORE] into the DB query.

    2. Drag data columns into cells

    1) Merge B3~B4 and drag the data column [CLASSNO] into B3.

    2) Drag the data column [NAME] into D3.

    3) Enter the following headers respectively in C3 and C4: Name and Total Score

    4) Drag the data column [GRADE] into D4 and set Data Setting as [Summary-sum].


    3. Adjust report style

    Set cell fill color and add borders, with the upper and lower outer borders being bolded.

    4. Select [Template] > [Page Setup] and modify the Orientation to [Landscape]

    5. Preview

    Data are grouped by Class No. and are horizontally expanded within the group.

    Due to the large size of data, the data in each group are displayed in two pages.

    6. Column Split-Fixed columns per line

    1) Select [Template] > [Multi-Columns/Lines].

    2) Click [Turn On] to set Column Split.

    • Column Section Style: Select [Column Split] and set [Over 5 Column then split].

    • Column Section: Set [Column Section Data] as D3:D4 and [Copy Column Sequence] as 3.

    • Check [Supplement Blank Line].

    In each group, data in the excess of 5 columns are displayed in a new column below.

    V. Card-type Column Split

    1. Create a new dataset [ds1].

    1) Create a new DB query dataset.

    2) Drag the table [SEMPLOYEE] into the DB query.

    2. Drag data columns into cells

    1) Drag data columns [EMPID], [EMPNAME], [SEX] and [TITLE] into C2~C5.

    2) Merge D2~D5 and drag the data column [PHOTO].

    3) Merge B1~D1 and enter the header: Employee Info.

    4) Enter the following headers in B2~B5: Employee, ID, Name, Gender and Title.

    3. Setting of parent cell

    1) Cells B1~E6 are occupied to create a card, including the data area and the blank areas above the E column and the 6th row.

    2) Set C2 as the parent cell of all cells within the range of the card, i.e. cells with black borders in the illustration below.

    3) In the blank area, just set C2 as the parent cell of E2 and B6.

    Cards will be next to each other if no blank space is reserved between them.


    4. Set report style

    Adjust the setting of cell fill color and border of B2~D5. Set the outer border as Bold.

    5. Preview

    1) Cards are vertically expanded, with each card displaying the information of one employee.

    2) Due to large number of employees, cards are displayed in 6 pages.

    6. Row Split

    1) Select [Template] > [Multi-Columns/Lines].

    2) Click [Turn On] to set Row Split.

    • Column Section Style: Select [Row Split] and set [Over 30 Row then split].

    • Column Section: Set [Column Section Data] as B1:E6 and [Copy Row Sequence] as 1.

    • Uncheck [Supplement Blank Line].

    Each card occupies 6 rows, and column split will be turned on when it occupies more than 30 rows. That is to say, each column displays 5 cards.


    7. Select [Template] > [Page Setup].

    Modify the Orientation to [Landscape] and set Paper Size as [A2].

    8. Preview

    By column split, cards are arranged orderly on a single page.
